ADOPT-A-SCHOOL
In an effort to provide hands on missions related projects to our congregation please note that during the coming year, College Church will begin to focus on a new community outreach effort toward our neighboring school Havencroft Elementary through the Faith Promise initiative Adopt-a-School.
Keep in mind that the school district requires everyone directly involved with students to be screened and trained for reading and/or tutoring in the classrooms. However, anyone can become involved in the indoor/outdoor cleaning, landscaping, painting, etc.
This intergenerational initiative by our Missions Council is open to adults, youth, and children wanting to reach out in a practical way toward the staff, children, and families of this neighboring school. Ours will ultimately be a three tiered approach: YouthFriends, Classroom Resourcing, and Building-Property Maintenance.
Be looking for more information over the coming months regarding this project. Contact persons are: Ray Hendrix, arayhendrix@aol.com and Troy Snyder tsnyder@collegechurch.com.
Periodically Adopt-a-School information will be updated on this web site. Check the Service Opportunities menu.
Invest in clean water. From Heart to Heart click and read about the WASH INITIATIVE in Guatemala. Here is the H2H web site link. Heart to Heart
Open the links above for how an ABSF class, teen ministry or children's ministry can provide clean water through a Heart to Heart program for as little as $300. Challenge your class or ministry to participate.
And here is how you can VOLUNTEER!
Would your class like to help supply Bibles to households in the United States? You can by donating to the Mainstream Bible Outreach Society. For $200, your class can provide 100 Bibles. Read more about this ministry at My Free Bible.
Contact Jim Gillespie (that's him on the right) at 913-647-2357 for more information or to make a donation. Jim is a faithful member of the College Church orchestra.
Do your ABSF class members ever ask what they can do for the Kansas City Rescue Mission (KCRM)? Funds are provided through College Church Faith Promise and many classes serve meals regularly, but the Mission has other specific needs as well.
Kansas City Rescue Mission has indicated an immediate need for the following items to help the homeless population during the spring and summer.
Urgent needs include T-Shirts, shorts, men's jeans (all sizes), and underwear (especially medium and large sizes). Toiletries and medical items (current date, not expired) include chapstick, sunscreen, allergy medication (similar to benedryl), antacids such as Tums or Maalox, and antifungal foot powder or spray.
Jerri Sapp can deliver items to KCRM each week. Call her at 764-8462. Email Jerri.
